Video Of A Woman In Glasgow Trying To Resuscitate A Pigeon Via Mouth-To-Mouth CPR

A 16-second video of an unidentified woman trying to resuscitate a seemingly dead pigeon in Glasgow, Scotland went viral online on April 19, 2017. The short clip was uploaded on Twitter by a user named Charlotte (@Charlismyname). Charlotte posted the video with the following caption: "Meanwhile in Glasgow. #pigeonCPR". The dark and comical clip was shared and liked thousands of times. In the video, the woman can be seen sticking the bird's beak into her mouth and breathing into it. She also attempted doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by pressing and releasing her fingers into the pigeon's chest.

Watch the video here. [The video is hosted on Twitter. You can still watch it even if you don't have an account with the social media site.]

Unfortunately, the bird is already dead. Its neck flopped when the woman tried to steady the bird on her palms. The neck-flopping along with the bird's legs that have straightened and devoid of movement are signs that the pigeon was already dead. Props to the woman though for trying to give the bird a second chance at life.

Is CPR for birds like pigeons effective?
A quick search on Google for bird CPR resuscitation brings out hundreds of relevant results. Well, that tells you something. Pigeon CPR is not as absurd as you might think. Pet owners have been doing it albeit with varying results. An article from Audubon magazine states that CPR is an important option you have if you want to save an ailing or injured bird.

According to the piece, the first thing you should do is open the bird's beak to see if there's any obstruction. Try to find a pulse then proceed. You have to be extra careful in giving the bird CPR because the bones and organs in the bird's chest area are sensitive.

In a nutshell, performing CPR on a bird can be a life-saver. Just make sure you do it right or you end up crushing your beloved pet's internal organs and bones.

Comments about the video from Reddit:
- Bird hearts beat pretty fast, I don't think she has the right compression rhythm for bird CPR at all. And don't even get me started on bird law.
- With breaths that long I bet she popped the lungs.
- This pigeon is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late pigeon. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies. It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-pigeon.

Squid Quickly Changes Its Color From Red To White As A Defense Mechanism (Video)

When people are asked to name living organisms that can change their colors and appearance to either blend with their surroundings or turn off predators, most people would mention the chameleon. Not many people are aware that there are organisms in the depths of the ocean that can equal if not surpass the color-changing abilities of the chameleon. One of such organisms is the squid.

Squids and other cephalopods like octopuses and cuttlefishes are capable of changing their skin colors in the blink of an eye. Turning from red to white or white to red can take just a few seconds. They often do this as a defense tactic. By matching their skin tones with their surroundings, they can render themselves invisible from possible predators. In the absence of predators and other threats, they can change their colors to simply stand out.

This remarkable transformation is because of the presence of what's called chromatophores in the skins of cephalopods. These are thousands of color-changing cells. A marine biologist named Michael Bok was able to capture in video what these cells look like under a microscope and how they change colors.

The crew of the ocean exploration ship Nautilus was also able to capture on video a squid quickly changing from red to white then white to red. Approached by equipment from the exploration vessel, the squid turns white to adapt to the surroundings. As the vessel moved away, the squid returned to its red color.

Listen To Lyrebirds Mimic Sounds Originally Made By Laser Guns, Camera Shutters, Chainsaws And Other Birds

If you think talking parrots are cool, wait till you hear what a lyrebird can do. This ground-dwelling bird which can be found in some parts of Australia (New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Melbourne) can mimic a very diverse number of sounds that it might as well be called the most talented mimic in the animal world.

At first glance, the lyrebird looks like just another ordinary bird. But you will be taken aback once it opens its beaks and starts making different sounds at a machine gun pace. What's even more amazing is the fact that the bird easily transitions from one sound to another. One second it's laughing like a kookaburra, the next second it's mouthing the sounds made by a camera shutter.

The obvious question is how does the lyrebird do it? How come it can copy dozens of sounds while most other birds can only produce a single sound? Well, the secret to the lyrebird's unmatched vocal repertoire lies in its syrinx. The syrinx is the vocal organ for birds and the lyrebird's syrinx is the most complexly-muscled among songbirds.

Below are videos of lyrebirds demonstrating their unique abilities. If you listen closely, you can hear them mimicking sounds originally made by laser toy guns, kookaburras, camera shutters, car alarms, other birds, and even chainsaws.

Lyrebirds can also mimic rifle-shots, dogs barking, babies crying, saws, mill whistles, and even the human voice.

In 1969, a park ranger named Neville Fenton at the New England National Park in New South Wales recorded a lyrebird song which after some investigation turned out to be a modified version of two popular songs from the 1930s - Mosquito's Dance and The Keel Row.

Chris Algieri Says He Is Super-Confident Ahead Of His Upcoming Showdown With Manny Pacquiao

On November 22, millions of boxing fans from around the world will be tuning into their television sets as Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Chris Algieri of the United States lock horns inside the squared ring at the Cotai Arena in Macao, China. At stake will be the World Boxing Organization's welterweight championship belt.

With the fight just less than two weeks away, HBO Sports is flexing its marketing muscles to hype up the match. Pacquiao-Algieri is a fight that is a bit more difficult to sell mostly because not many people know Algieri. The American boxer burst into fans' consciousness just a few months ago in June when he upset Ruslan "The Siberian Rocky" Provodnikov in a bloody battle of guts at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In a preview of the upcoming match that recently aired on HBO, Algieri said that he's ready and he's confident that he will secure the victory come November 22. He added that he can beat Pacquiao because of his "competitive advantage".

It's to be expected that Algieri will enter the ring against Pacquiao as a heavy underdog. Pacquiao is just coming off two very convincing wins against two big names in the sport - Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley. This is not to mention the fact that Pacquiao has heavier hands and he is way more experienced. Pacquiao has fought 63 professional bouts compared to Algieri's 20.

Algieri is undefeated as a professional boxer. His biggest win to date was the split-decision victory he earned with his gutsy performance against the wild and powerful Provodnikov. Some people contest Algieri's win over Provodnikov and no one can blame them. It was a very close fight and the decision could have gone either way.

One thing's for sure though, you can question Algieri winning the contest but you can't question the way he fought in that fight. The way he survived two brutal knockdowns in the very first round. The way he rallied to get back into the fight with one of his eyes completely shut and swollen.

In the preview for the fight aired by HBO, fight fans got to see how Algieri segued into boxing after getting disappointed with the way professional kickboxers are getting paid.

Weird And Surreal Short Film From Directors Daniel Kwan And Daniel Scheinert (Aka Daniels)

A refrigerator breaking down a door and running away from its owner. A squishy red ball bouncing around town, bouncing into a home, and getting intimate in bed with a woman. A dozen men on the beach joining together to form a human robot. These are just a few of the very weird scenes you get to see in Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's latest short masterpiece called Interesting Ball.

There's no real story to speak of aside from the implication that if the interesting red ball either touches you or comes near you, some weird stuff is going to happen to you and the people around you.

Making the short film even more surreal is the slow and dramatic music that accompanies the scenes. The kind of music that you'd expect from a Christopher Nolan or Terrence Malick picture.

The Daniels are also behind the viral music video for DJ Snake and Lil Jon's song Turn Down For What. For more of the dynamic duo's weird work, check them out on their official website here.

Two Kangaroos Filmed Having A Wild And Dramatic Fight On A Suburban Street In Australia

Rodney Langham, a man living in a quiet suburban neighborhood in New South Wales, Australia is a very lucky man. At least, as far as marsupial mixed martial arts is concerned. You see, Mr. Langham is among the few who was able to witness a rather wild and dramatic fight between two gigantic kangaroos in his neighborhood. Kangaroos are everywhere in Australia but you don't often see them slugging it out with each other.

One sunny day, Mr. Langham was very surprised to see two kangaroos punching and kicking each other in front of his home in New South Wales. Fortunately for us, Mr. Langham decided to film the match and post it on YouTube so we can all watch and enjoy a lesser known side of the magnificent marsupials.

For most of us, our knowledge of kangaroos revolves around three things. One, they can only be seen in Australia. Two, they have pouches where they carry their babies. And three, they are good hoppers. With this video, we can add a fourth bit of knowledge about them - they can fight.

Kangaroos would engage each other in fights for a variety of reasons. It could be over a female kangaroo, over a drinking spot, or over a grazing area. Fights can last as short as a few seconds or as long as an hour.

Were These Bonifacio Global City Marshals Too Rough In The Way They Arrested These Two Men?

So this video reared its head on my Facebook news-feed several times today. Always the curious cat, I checked it out. It's a video filmed by a pedestrian of several security guards (they call themselves marshals) wrestling a Caucasian man to the ground so they can handcuff him. The title of the video says it happened inside Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Watching the video without any context as to what happened prior, it's easy to take the side of the man being manhandled and direct our spite at the uniformed men. This seems to be what's happening as evidenced by the rather angry comments I see on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Someone provided a backstory to the incident via a comment posted on the YouTube video. The gist of said comment is: The two men (foreigners) were skating at a park somewhere within BGC. A lady marshal calls them out that they can't skate there. The two men insisted that they can because they were told by a policewoman that they are allowed to skate at the park, not on the streets. Argument ensued. Then the thing caught on video happened. To instantly believe this story would of course be unwise as it was posted by an anonymous person. The story does seem to check out but anybody can make up a story and post it online. So take it with grains of salt.

Other reports on the incident say that the guards confiscated the two men's skateboards. And when they tried to take their boards back, the altercation ensued. At one point in the video, one of the men can be heard shouting "Help me. Help me."

Something must have angered the marshals to be acting the way they did. Half a dozen marshals wouldn't run up to you to push you to the ground when one marshal is all it needed to put you on cuffs and bring you to a police station. However, BGC marshals do seem to have a rather ugly reputation. There's even a Facebook page dedicated to the bad apples among them. The page is called WE HATE BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY'S ABUSIVE SECURITY GUARDS!

The video has come to the attention of BGC and they posted a statement on their Facebook page. The statement goes:

"Regarding a video showing an incident involving BGC’s Marshals: We have reviewed the video and it indicates that certain members of our security personnel resorted to inappropriate behavior and we are currently conducting a full investigation of this incident. Meanwhile, we also filed formal charges against the two foreigners who had hit and hurt our lady marshal and another male marshal when their attention was called to certain violations of BGC's community rules, and before their apprehension was captured in the video."

Caught On CCTV Camera: Woman Stealing A Charity Donation Can In SM Megamall

The bad news: a donation can placed on the counter of a store in Mandaluyong City was stolen by a thief. The good news: the thief was captured on video doing the criminal act. A CCTV camera installed within the store showed a woman in her 40s or 50s stealing the donation can.

The incident happened at a branch of Fax Parcel Print located inside SM Megamall. In the two-minute video, a woman carrying a shoulder bag and a gift bag entered the store. The woman immediately headed to the portion of the counter where the donation can was located. She then placed the gift bag she was carrying on top of the counter to conceal the can from other customers within the store. Moments later, using a brown jacket, the woman covered the can, grabbed it, and walked out of the store.

Kurt Perez who works at the store posted the video on Facebook. According to Perez, they reviewed the tape taken by their CCTV cameras when they found out that the donation can was missing. That's when they saw that it was stolen by a thief.

Placing donation boxes and cans inside stores in the Philippines is a common practice. Most of the donations collected from these cans and boxes are for charities like Gawad Kalinga and organizations like the Red Cross. It's saddening to think that some people are desperate enough to steal these donations for their own personal use.

Man Cutting A Tree Limb With A Chainsaw Sent Flying Through the Air By The Falling Tree Limb

"Get out of there guys. I don't want to hit anybody. Is everybody good?" These were the words uttered by a man before he started cutting a tree limb while atop a ladder. The next thing he knew, he was sent flying through the air after the cut and falling tree limb hit him. The moment was captured on video by a woman watching the tree cutting. It was uploaded on YouTube by Kurt Stepp, a co-worker of the man in the video.

According to The Blaze, they've reached out to Stepp and inquired about his co-worker if he's okay. Stepp replied laughing and saying that the man is okay and fine. Not a broken bone was suffered by the man.

From comments posted by viewers on the video on YouTube, it seems that the man was cutting the tree libm the wrong way. Carl Scruggs chimed in with the following advice:

"Wow. Seriously, your coworker is not going to survive for very long if he doesn't start:
1. Roping himself off at 15-feet heights.
2. Not standing on the very top rung of a barely-secured ladder
3. Making a bottom cut first
4. Not trying to cut above his own height, and, for fuck's sake
5. Not trying to use a chainsaw one-handed"

Australian Camper Finds Something Unexpected In A Campsite Shower Room

At a camping site in Crow's Nest, Queensland, Australia, camper Stephen Paice wanted to take a shower one beautiful morning when he discovered something unexpected in one of the shower rooms. The facility makes use of shower bags with pulley systems. When Paice pulled one of the bags, he discovered a possum chilling inside of the bag. He decided to just let the possum stay there. He also returned with a video camera to film the cute animal who doesn't seem to be that all disturbed.

Paice said that "This morning, I went in to take a shower and the shower in here is a canvas bag with a pulley system. I came in ready to take my shower, pulled the canvas bag down and just before I pulled the water in, I found this little fellow."

Please Turn Your Phone 90 Degrees Or This Guy Will Come Get You

Nobody wants to see videos taken vertically with wide swaths of black space sandwiching it. The folks over at IFHT don't like them either. So they've come up with a great song and video that will hopefully help in educating people to turn their phone 90 degrees or sideways when trying to record something on video.

Girl's Pet Iguana Runs Away, She Finds It Languishing In Jail

An iguana in jail. That's a sentence you'll never expect to ever come across. But a woman in Texas really had to pick her pet iguana in jail after losing it for about two weeks. Apparently, the iguana escaped from its owner's house, was found by the local police, and having no idea where to keep it, the police decided to put the iguana in a prison cell. The iguana which its owner has named Sid is about four feet long and weighs five pounds. So it's basically a small dinosaur.

Here's Sid, spending some time in jail:
The owner, who posted Sid's photo and story on Reddit said "I talked to my neighbor and let them know and they told me that the police department behind our houses came and were looking for the owner. I am in the process of moving houses which was how he escaped and why I missed them when they came looking for me. I called them and let them know who I was and then we worked out everything from there."
